Coping Mechanisms (MIDTERMS) -09/19/18

What kind of coping I used in the past to deal with academic failures and low academic performance? If you have not experience academic failure and low academic performance what coping do you do?

Honestly, I didn’t experience any academic failures and low academic performances when I was elementary , my parents is used to my high grades that is why their expectations are high, as time past by in my high school years I’m starting to get stressed about academics. I feel challenged so I studied harder to make my parents proud. Sometimes my parent’s aren’t satisfied in the grades that I got. Because of my parent’s not being satisfied in the grades that I got stressed. So I focused more and manage my time to things that needed to be done.

My Reflection on the Psychological View of the Self (MIDTERMS)

William James described the self as divided into two categories: the “I-self” and the “Me-self”. He believed that the “I-self” is the thinking self that controls his thoughts in his mind. The “Me-self” refers to the individual’s experience consists of subcategories: “Material-self”, “Social-self”, and “Spiritual-self”.

The “I-self” refers to the reality of one’s life. An example of this is by talking to yourself and repeatedly saying what you were saying. By having this kind of conversation with yourself you were thinking critically on what you say.

The “Me-self” which refers to personal experiences is sub divided into three: “Material-self”, “Social-self”, and “Spiritual-self”. The Material self are the physical needs of a person in a specific situations. The Social self refers on how you interact with other people or what we called ” Socializing” , then the Spiritual self is the moral behaviour of an individual and their core values of being a human.

Reflection on the View of other people

These are the words that they used to describe me. So basically the majority of the words written are “Happy Person” “Quiet” and “Shy”. It is true that I am a very joyful person, I enjoy little things, other people say that I’m acting childish but I don’t care, I just simply enjoying my life. It is true that I am quiet and shy if you don’t know me yet, but one’s you know me I can be the craziest friend you can have. I go with the flow with my friends in doing crazy things. Some of the words they described me are “Smart” and “Nerdy”. I’m not that smart, I am just an average student who goes with the flow of the class. One thing is I am not nerdy, just because I am wearing eyeglasses doesn’t mean that I’m smart. We do not have to use eyeglasses to be the basis of being a smart person. I’m flattered of what my classmates think I am as a person.

Reflection about Self

I believe that the circled words are the accurate words that described me. Base on my observation I noticed that these are my personalities that makes me a person.

  • Respectful – I simply respect everyone like the others, my family raised me with proper manners. Taught me to respect people without judging them as a person.
  • Energetic – I am so energetic when it comes to hanging out with my friends because I get comfortable when I’m with them.
  • Quiet – Sometimes this describes me, I am a quiet person when I’m not in the mood. I don’t talk that much to those people who I am not close with but still I am approachable.
  • Shy – I can say that I am a shy person specially to those people who I don’t know or the people who I’m not choose with. I’m to shy to talk or approach somebody because I’m scared they might ignore me.
  • Self-Aware – I’m aware of myself that I know the things that I do and have the knowledge to do specific things.
  • Hard Worker – I describe myself as a hard worker because I do work hard, I’m not satisfied if I didn’t reach my goal . I believe that after all the hardwork it will pay off.
  • Calm – I am sometimes a canl person, I don’t get pressured by things I need to do. I think being calm can make the work better because if I’m not calm my work might be trash.
  • Confidant – I am Confidant in terms of telling secrets or a private manner . I tell those things to the people who are very close to me like my friends or family. But one’s they spread my private manner or secret, I lose trust in them.
  • Cooperative – In having a groupings or teams I became a Cooperative person, I like to cooperate with people to make our work easier and faster, I can say that I can be a Team player because without my team I’m nothing.
  • Humble – This personality fits me because I’m not boastful of the things that I’m good at. For Example in Basketball, They say that I’m good at playing basketball but I say that it was just right. I do not say that I can beat you all. I degrade myself not to be boastful.
  • Clever – I’m clever in terms of life, I make a way to make my life easier, I do not stress myself over little things but I instinctively think a way to solve my problem faster.

My reflection about St. Augustine’s idea about self

st aug

St. Augustine ‘s idea of self came from his experience. He reflect on himself because of what it means to be a human being. I strongly agree on what St. Augustine’s statement says because I believe that without God we are nothing, we should center God in everything that we do for us to live our life the best.I center God in my life to achieve the true happiness and completeness of our life that we desire

My reflection about Aristotle’s idea about self

aristotle.jpg

They say that the only never-ending thing in this world is “Change” I believe that it is true, due to the fact that it is natural if you think about it. For a basic example , Our self as time past by we change by means of physically, mentally, and spiritually. We develop ourselves as who we are today , in common sense basically change permanent, from the day we were born until we die. For Aristotle it is significant to live a life in moderation where self should be aware of the limits that is needed for us to experience the goodness of life.

“Good is above God”

plato

The consciousness about good life is natural among us humans. As a human being we are supposed know to do good things, to show goodness is with you and to develop our moral character of ourselves. In my experience the effortless thing to do with goodness is to help a person without asking any in return. I feel great when I helped someone who is in need.It is our decision if we will help ourselves to  develop us and to grow as a better person we can be.

” An Unexamined life is not worth living”

socrates

Socrates stated that ” An unexamined life is not worth living” which is true that our lives has a lot of experiences. According on Socrates statement , to attain a true happiness in life you must have a good life . We must know what are the good things and the bad ones and we must be conscious about the things and must be ignorant for us not to fall in the wrong path.
