According to James, self is everything that an individual considers to be his or hers, not only his or her body and material possessions but also his or her reputation and beliefs. In my own opinion the things that we have doesn’t define us. Yes, it makes us more happier when we get what we really want but it doesn’t mean that this things show us who we are. We know that the things that we have will reflect who we really are . Materialism means that we give more value than material things rather than our intangible values. In this activity we are assigned to make a list of all the liabilities and assets. When I’ve done this activity this made me realize that I’m lucky that I have all the things that I wanted , I’m lucky because some people just want some food but all I do is demand what I want but not needed. After this activity I feel contented because my parents gave me the things that I want and need. Another thing I learned about this topic is to differentiate the things that I need and what I want.
